Creative Ways With Polymer Clay
by Dotty McMillan

This book has been anxiously awaited, but it's finally here and well worth the wait. It's beautifully done with excellent photographs in copious amounts and well written instructions to follow the many step-by-step projects.

The book starts with some basic clay information and some of the more elementary processes, such as making a Skinner blend, then continues through a huge range of techniques and projects. Some projects use beginner techniques, such as how to make Natasha beads (magic mirror beads) or how to make a push mold. Others are more complicated, such as the directions for making a rock purse amulet. This alone will be appreciated by people who don't have internet access and haven't been exposed to the buzz that these little gems create periodically.

Some are quite innovative and novel - like Carol Zilliacus' Faux Cloisonne or Susan Hyde's Twinkle Light Sleeves. There's a tiny jointed teddy bear by Kathy Davis that would be perfect to ornament packages or necklaces this holiday season, and a darling scalloped choker design by Cheryl Trottier that any young lady would love. The kaleidoscope directions are comprehensive and I can't wait to try making one.

The gallery section is pure inspiration.

The book is full of examples of work and wonderful ideas from a wide variety of different artists both well-known & unknown, and I'd recommend it to any polymer clay fan - no matter what their experience level. Many thanks for a wonderful book, Dotty!
